Francis D. ‘Sonny’ Janoski
FRANCIS D. ‘SONNY’ JANOSKI, age 78, of Clinton, passed Saturday afternoon, June 6, 2015, at UPMC Mercy, with his family at his side.
Born March 23, 1937, in Mt. Lebanon, he was the last surviving child born to the late Michael J. and Anna Dolores (Zeleskey) Janoski.
A member of St. Columbkille Roman Catholic Church of Imperial, he was the founder and lifetime owner and operator, along with his wife, JoAnn, of Janoski Farms. He was also a member of Pennsylvania Vegetable Growers Association, the Green Star Co-Op, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Pennsylvania Flower Growers Association, and was President of the Allegheny County Fruit and Vegetable Association.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Daniel Janoski on April 12, 2011; two brothers, Martin and Michael Janoski, Jr.; three sisters, Dolores Gigliotti, Elverna Wheeler, and Regina Pyszcznski.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, JoAnn M. (Frederick) Janoski, whom he married June 30, 1962; his children, Deborah and Tim Seibel of Clinton, Michael and Patty Janoski of Clinton, and Diane and Ken Swimkosky of Robinson Twp.; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Janoski of South Fayette; also surviving are 13 grandchildren, one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the MOODY FUNERAL HOME, Route 30, Clinton, Monday 5-9 p.m., and Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. where parting prayers will be offered Wednesday at 9:15 a.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Columbkille Roman Catholic Church, Imperial. Father Paul Merkovosky, celebrant. He will be laid to rest in the Hopewell-Hebron Cemetery.
Memorials in his name, if desired, may be made to the Hopewell-Hebron Cemetery, 1771 Route 30, Imperial, Pa. 15126, for the continued perpetual care of the cemetery.
Walter F. Kovac
WALTER F. KOVAC, 87, of Clinton, died in the comfort of his home with family at his side on Monday morning, June 1, 2015.
Born December 12, 1927, in Aliquippa, he was the last surviving child born to the late John and Valeria (Herda) Kovach. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a Corporal post World War II and Korea. He was a teacher at the Baltimore County Public School System. A passion for wrestling, he coached and refereed for 30 years in Baltimore County. He was also an avid chess player.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Emmalu Elizabeth (McMichael) Kovac, who passed on October 18, 2014; a son, Kurt Kovac; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Alison Kovac; and a sister, Helen Kovac Schuster.
Surviving are his children, Jill Newdick, Daniel Kovac and Amy Kovac; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received in the MOODY FUNERAL HOME, Route 30, Clinton, on Friday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until preceding to the Clinton United Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m., where his services will be held at 11 a.m..
He will be laid to rest with his wife at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
Memorials, if desired, may be made in his name to one’s favorite charity.
Patrick J. Lamont, Jr.
PATRICK J. LAMONT, JR., age 52 died Thursday, May 28, 2015.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. at MOODY FUNERAL HOME, Clinton, PA.
William R. Fazzolare
WILLIAM R. FAZZOLARE, age 30, of Midway, died tragically on Saturday, May 23, 2015.
He was the beloved son of William C. and Tammy L. (Henry) Fazzolare; dearest brother of Tamill and Taushia Fazzolare; dear uncle of Christian Fazzolare; and his fiancee, Joelle Soisson.
Friends will be received in the MOODY FUNERAL HOME, Route 30, Clinton, Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Cremation will follow, and services will be private.
Betty Leonard
BETTY LEONARD, 83, formerly of Clinton, died Tuesday afternoon, May 19, 2015, at Heritage Valley Beaver.
Born May 29, 1931, in McKees Rocks, she was the beloved daughter of the late John William and Goldie Noreen (LaPoe) Carson. A homemaker, Betty was also a member of the Clinton United Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence “Shorty” Leonard, on March 2, 2005, and a brother, James F Carson.
She is the beloved mother of Judith C. and her husband, Howard Dale Huemmrich, and Mark and his wife, Lorrie Leonard, and grandmother of Amanda and Matthew Leonard, and David Huemmrich.
Friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the MOODY FUNERAL HOME, Route 30, Clinton, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Laura Strauss, of the Clinton United Presbyterian Church, officiating.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Clinton U.P. Church Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made in her name to the Clinton U.P. Church.
James F. Wasson III
JAMES F. WASSON III, 67, of Hookstown (Greene Twp.), died Saturday morning, May 16, 2015, in the comfort of his home with family at his side.
Born Sept. 25, 1947, in McKees Rocks, he was the beloved son of Audrey (Roessler) Wasson May of Brighton Twp., and the late James F. Wasson II. James was retired from Duquesne Light where he worked as a supervisor and previously as a lineman. He was a member of the Oakdale Lodge F&AM. He enjoyed camping, especially with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene R. (Nichols) Wasson; his children, James F. Wasson IV and his wife, Bonnie, Hookstown; Melissa L. and her husband, Kevin Rice, Hookstown; James Burnworth, Rockwood, PA; Lisa Maurer, Portage, PA; and Dianne and Chris Stelle, Hooversville; brother Bill Wasson, Hookstown and his late wife, Cheryl Wasson, and Ronald Wasson, East Palestine; a sister, Janet Thiele, Pittsburgh; 12 beloved grandchildren.
Friends will be received in the MOODY FUNERAL HOME, Route 30, Clinton on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.. Everyone is asked to meet on Wednesday at the Mill Creek Presbyterian Church, Route 151, Hookstown, where his service will be held at Noon. The Rev. Nathan Weller officiating.
He will be laid to rest in the Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, Georgetown.
Memorials in his name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
Tammy M. Hughes
TAMMY M. HUGHES, 49 of Aliquippa, (Independence Twp.) died in the comfort of her home with family at her side, on Tuesday morning, May 5, 2015.
Born July 15, 1965 in Sewickley, Tammy was the beloved daughter of William and Patricia (Hefferan) Hughes.
Tammy was a former student at New Horizons School, and a member of the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. She loved bingo, playing with Legos, and when younger, she enjoyed participating in Special Olympics.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother and his wife, Brian and Tammy Hughes of Chippewa; and her sister, Janet Hughes of Hopewell Twp.. She was the beloved aunt of Tyler Hughes, Tyler Puharic, Joshua Stillwagon, Kaylee Hughes, Tanner Hughes, Jonathan Stillwagon, and Justin Stillwagon. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the MOODY FUNERAL HOME, Route 30, Clinton, PA where her services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Randall Clow of the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Tammy will be laid to rest in the Clinton U.P. Church Cemetery.
Ingrid E. Augustine
INGRID E. AUGUSTINE, 75, of Clinton (Hanover Twp.), died Tuesday morning, April 28, 2015, while in the care of the staff at Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver.
Born January 22, 1940, in Insterburg, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Reinhold and Ella (Gollub) Radons. A homemaker, she along with her husband Chris were the owners and operators of the C&I True Value Hardware Store in Hopewell Twp. She was also a member of the Raccoon Women’s Club. An avid quilter, she belonged to the Piece and Quilt Club, and was also an avid artist particularly oil painting. Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Chris Augustine,, whom she married April 21, 1967, and her children and their spouses, Andrea and Paul Wolfe, Glenwillard; Veronica and Robert Bickerstaff, Ambridge, and Steven Augustine, Hopewell Twp. A sister and her husband, Monika and Richard Nadj, Germany, survive. Her six beloved grandchildren are Stephanie and Christopher Wolfe, and Miranda, Trent, Gavin, and Alyssa Bickerstaff.
Family and friends are welcome to call Thursday from 3-8 p.m. only in the MOODY FUNERAL HOME, Route 30, Clinton. Famiy and friends are asked to meet at the Hebron Presbyterian Church, 1767 Route 30, Clinton, PA 15026, on Friday where her services will begin at 11 a.m.. The Rev. Cinda Isler will officiate.
She will be laid to rest in the Hopewell-Hebron Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
Robert W. Wynkoop, Sr.
ROBERT W. WYNKOOP, Sr., age 85, of North Fayette, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015.
He was the husband of the late Shirley (Blake) Wynkoop; father of Ralph Wynkoop, and the late Robert W. Wynkoop, Jr.; brother of John Wynkoop and Mildred Borne. He had four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and he will be buried with his wife in the Hopewell-Hebron Cemetery.
Robert C. Butler
ROBERT C. BUTLER, of Clinton, PA passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, March 4th, at the age of 97. Robert lived a full, rich life and will be missed deeply by those he leaves behind.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Esther Butler. Both were native to Kansas.
Robert was born at home in rural Chanute, Kansas in 1918. He attended and received a degree in Physics from the University of Ottawa, Kansas at which point he entered the newly expanding United States Weather Bureau. During World War II, he helped to coordinate early weather warning and recording stations along the east coast to assist in the country’s military defense plans. After the war, Robert moved to Pittsburgh to help establish the new National Weather Service office at the Pittsburgh International Airport, then under construction. Robert served 37 years in the Weather Bureau, eventually running the Pittsburgh office. Robert was the voice of the weather in Pittsburgh for some years, giving the noon weather report on the local radio stations.
Robert was a man of diverse interests and great abilities. An accomplished artist, he painted, drew, and designed throughout his life. He enjoyed woodcarving and woodworking and displayed a skill in it to match his professional accomplishments. An active and practical man, Robert enjoyed the nexus of art and skill that is involved in architecture. He designed and built several homes and building projects during his long life. A talented musician, Robert played in various musical groups in the Clinton area, and directed the South Side community choir, the Community Youth Choir, and served as the choir director at Hebron church for a number of years. Robert relished country living from his youth to his death, and took great pleasure in being an active small farmer. He enjoyed rural life and the daily routines that are involved in raising cattle.
Being civic minded, he and Esther were long time active members of Hebron Church in Clinton, where he was instrumental in designing and organizing a building expansion. He was also very active in the local schools. First, in the Murdocksville Independent school district, and then in the South Side school district, where he served on the School Board that originally organized the school. He later served as a retired volunteer in the elementary grades at South Side for more than 10 years along with his wife. He and Esther were members of the inaugural class of the South Side Hall of Fame, an accomplishment of which he was most proud.
A member of a large and long-lived family, Robert was the last surviving of three brothers and two sisters. He and Esther are survived by two accomplished sons, five grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren, which he was able to see regularly. He will be terribly missed by his family, and the community that he endeavored to serve, will feel the want of his talents and abilities.
A memorial service for Robert will be held Sunday, March 15, at 3:30 p.m. at the Hebron Presbyterian Church in Clinton, and will be followed by a dinner with time to share memories.
