Rena Ann Poole

Rena Ann Poole, 77, of College Grove, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on May 22, after courageously battling liver cancer. She was born on February 25, 1949, to George and Delores Logan in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. Rena attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and graduated in 1971 with a BS in Medical Technology. She married Tom Poole on July 29, 1972, and together they had two sons, Brad and Jeff, both of whom became physicians. She always felt they were her greatest accomplishment and was profoundly proud of them.

Rena worked as a medical technologist in the pediatric hematology/oncology lab at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for 35 years. She was a highly regarded colleague and a dear friend to many at the hospital. A passionate sports fan, she loved cheering for the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins, but was especially devoted to youth baseball and following Brad and Jeff’s journey from Little League through college baseball at the University of Pittsburgh. She also cherished her annual fall trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for more than 30 years, where she loved to relax and unwind by the ocean.

Rena is survived by her husband, Tom; her son Brad (Amanda) and their daughters Madilyn and Mia; and her son Jeff (Savannah) and their children Davey, Rocky, and Pippa, as well as his daughters MacKenna and Aila. She is also survived by her sisters, Patti, Susie, and Lori, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Delores; her brother, Ray; and her nephew, Kenny Ray.
